In anticipation of heavy snow, ice, and dangerously cold temperatures, Clearfield Mayor Mason Strouse has declared a Snow Emergency for Clearfield Borough. The Snow Emergency will be in effect from Saturday, January 24 at 10:00 PM through Monday, January 26 at 8:00 AM.
The Snow Emergency is declared to assist the Clearfield Borough Street Department and local law enforcement agencies with snow removal and public safety operations.
During the Snow Emergency, residents are asked to:
- Use off-street parking and remove vehicles from roadways to allow for snow removal and ice treatment
- Clear a 3-foot perimeter around all fire hydrants
- Ensure heating sources are functioning properly and that adequate heating supplies are available
- Clear sidewalks and driveways within 12 hours after snowfall ends; snow should not be shoveled onto streets or sidewalks
- Assist neighbors, especially those who are elderly or shut-in
- Secure items such as garbage cans, furniture, and decorations to prevent them from blowing into streets or vehicles
- Immediately report lost utilities or downed power lines to the appropriate authorities.
In addition, the Clearfield Fire Department plans to offer a warming shelter at the fire station beginning Friday at 8:00 PM through Tuesday at noon. This timeframe may be extended if power outages occur for an extended period. Overnight shelter arrangements can be made if needed.
Anyone in need of a warming shelter should call County Control at 814-765-1533 and ask to speak with the Clearfield Fire Department for coordination. The Clearfield Borough office could also be utilized if the need arises.
This information, as well as future announcements and information from the Mayor, is available on the Clearfield Borough website at www.ClearfieldBoro.com and also on the Mayor Mason Strouse and Clearfield Borough Facebook pages.
